RESEARCH
What prompted this case study was the opportunity to provide people a way to achieve personal well-being.​
-Started with competitive analysis on fitness apps in the app store and synthesized what these apps did well and not so well
​
-Researched well-being as a whole with user testing and surveys and found out that overall health as a whole was a huge umbrella term that described a positive lifestyle
​
-To manage the outcome of this project, four main branches of personal health emerged; Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Social aspects of one's life

HYPOTHESIS/Â USER TESTING INSIGHTS
The hypothesis was to implement a playful game like aesthetic to the overall app​
-User testing indicated that utilizing grounded and realistic imagery to fully engage the user was necessary. The realistic images and giving the user a sense of control of their "real space" enabled them to connect more fully with the LEAF experience
EVOLUTION
USING NATURE AS A METAPHORÂ TO SHOW HOW A PERSON BALANCES THEIR OWN DEVELOPMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH
One of the key features in our app was to maintain a level of connectivity to the user when they use LEAF. This meant giving them a sense of escape and a way to find their happy place. We use images of nature and specific content to drive emotional responses.
YOUR TREE
This tree symbolizes your efforts to balance your lifestyle. It is composed of four main branches: Emotional, Mental, Physical, and Social aspects of your life.

Inspiration came from Jane McGonigal's TED talk about her battle with depression after an accident, where she suffered severe head trauma. She used gaming dynamics and her social circle to crawl out of her death bed.
ONCE YOU CHOOSE AN ASPECT TO WORK ON...
There will be a catered feed that pinpoints methods that help you with your problem area. If you feel a little foggy that day, pick a game or news article from the LEAF APP to stimulate your mind.

Simple icons and actionable buttons keep the user flow going and gives the user a sense of accomplishment. One of the main goals was to keep the user engaged and ready for the next adventure.
IN APP VS. OUT OF APP ACTIVITIES
After check in, the app, depending on your input, will suggest in app content, such as games and blogs, funny images and memes, or music. There is also the option of participating in out of app activities such as a walk around the block, or a suggestion to call a loved one and tell them how much you miss them.

We wanted to approach the pursuit of happiness in a holistic way. This meant getting people to engage in the message of the app; that the world is your therapy and that you need to get out there and experience it.
ACCOMPLISHMENT AND BALANCE
As you accomplish different chapters in the app, your tree will grow and flourish, but only in the areas that you work on. If you only concentrate on a section, your tree will visually remind you to look into the other aspects of the LEAF app.
